வில்வமங்கள ரிஷி என்பவர் பகவான் பத்மநாபனை தினமும் ஆராதித்து வந்த வேளையில், ஒரு நாள் பகவானுக்கு நிவேதனம் செய்ய ஒன்றும் இல்லாததால், ஒரு மாமரத்திலிருந்து சிறு மாங்காயைப் பறித்து, பக்கத்தில் கீழே கிடைத்த தேங்காய் சிரட்டையில் அதை வைத்து உப்புடன் பகவான் அனந்தபத்மநாபனுக்கு நிவேதனம் செய்தார்...

அன்றிலிருந்து பகவான் அனந்தபத்மநாபன், அதைப் பொக்கிஷமாக பாதுகாத்து வைத்திருக்கிறார்...

இன்று வரை தேங்காய் சிரட்டையில்தான் பகவானுக்கு உப்பில் ஊறவைத்த கண்ணிமாங்காய் நிவேதனம் செய்யப்படுகிறது..

சேரவம்சத்து திருவிதாங்கூர் ராஜா ஒருவர் அந்தத் தேங்காய் சிரட்டைக்கு தங்ககவசம் செய்து ரத்தினங்களால் அலங்காரம் செய்வித்திருக்கிறார்...

ஹே பக்த தேங்காய் சிரட்டையே, உன்னைப் போல் நானும் பகவானுக்கு உபயோகமாக வாழ, பகவானின் பொக்கிஷமாக மாற நீ அனுக்ரஹம் செய்...

Sri vilvamangala Swamiji was an ardent devotee of Lord Ananthapadhmanabha. One day he had nothing to offer to the Lord. At that time he plucked some tender mangoes & àdded some salt to them & offered them in a coconut shell...

From that day onwards Lord Ananthapadhmanabha preserves the shell carefully as a treasure till today.. 

One of the Travancore Kings covered that coconut shell with a golden cup and studded with precious stones....

Till today Lord Ananthapadmanabha is enjoying KaNNi maangaai (salted tender mango) only in gold covered coconut shell....

Hey fortunate & blessed coconut shell....
